When I started to search for an answer to the complications I experienced as a result of a misdiagnosis and resultant surgeries, there was very little. Now the internet offers lots of information about lipedema. There is great progress, which will continue to grow. Lipedema, literally and figuratively, has a place on the map now! Because of YOU! Lippie ladies everywhere continue to educate and raise awareness! We are being heard. Well done!

The follow up exam with Dr. Karen Herbst takes place 4 months after the last surgery, in October.

Nicole was diagnosed by Dr Karen Herbst at the FDRS (Fat Disorders Research Society) conference in Oct 2013, and then had surgery with Dr Josef Stutz in Germany in March & April 2014. Her story is so touching. I was so glad to get to know her, she is courageous and so honest & direct. More of her story will in the final documentary.

Lipedema / lipoedema Awareness Day 21: #ihaveembraced

There’s more to the story: there may be more WHYS to body SIZE!

Kudos to Taryn Brumfitt, who after 3 pregnancies was contemplating cosmetic surgery and did a complete turn around and asked herself, what if, WHAT IF, I begin to love my body just as it is, right now. As a woman with lipedema, I relate to the struggle and the constant desire to have a normal body, whatever “normal” is. So today, in honor of the act of courageousness to step into the limelight and stand up and say “EMBRACE” the body you have, here is Body Image Movement http://bodyimagemovement.com.au/ and Taryn’s kickstarter video, she has raised over $300,000 of her original $200,000 goal. Hooray for a movement to help all women move beyond the cultural traps around body size.
